Our field ethic / fewer assumptions, better notes

A community of careful watchers

safarizandumi.forum is an independent educational field companion for people who would rather understand an encounter than claim it.

Community begins with a method

We use “community” to describe a shared practice: patient looking, clear records and respect for wildlife. This static website does not operate member accounts, a live forum, private messaging or a public sightings stream. There are no invented member counts, recent posts or claims of active field teams.

The guides connect tracks, behaviour, habitat and equipment through one idea: restraint improves both animal welfare and the honesty of an observation. A note that explains its limits is more useful than a confident label with no supporting detail.

A small editorial promise

Describe what is visible. Distinguish interpretation. Keep alternative explanations available.

The animal comes first

Access is not an entitlement to an encounter

No identification, image or story is worth baiting, crowding, handling or exposing vulnerable wildlife. Local law, closures and specialist safety guidance take priority over these general notes.

01 / Evidence

Show the limits

We encourage direct observations, tentative interpretations and unresolved questions to be recorded separately. Illustrative models are labelled and are never offered as conclusive track references.

02 / Sources

Use the right scale

Our guides link to established recording, conservation and land-management resources. Those organisations are independent of this site; links do not imply partnership, endorsement or affiliation.

03 / Protection

Keep locations quiet

We do not request exact wildlife coordinates in the fieldnote tool. Public examples should omit nest sites, den entrances, sensitive landmarks and identifying personal details.

Corrections and thoughtful contributions

If a passage is misleading, send the page address, the wording in question and a reliable source that helps explain the correction. Separate a regional exception from a general error where possible. Avoid sending sensitive locations or personal information about other observers.

There is no automatic publication process. Emailing a suggestion does not create an account, guarantee a reply or make the material public. Any proposed publication of a contributor’s identifiable material should be agreed separately.

We do not claim professional wildlife rescue, veterinary, legal or expedition services. For a local safety issue, injured animal or suspected offence, contact the appropriate authority rather than waiting for an editorial response.
